Late last week I came home from work and the sun was shining in through our front window... for the first time this year. It was like the sun gods decided to sprinkle a little magic in my house that evening. It had that golden dark yellow hue on everything, just like you see in the movies. It felt like a late Summer night - everything warm and fuzzy and still. It felt damn good.
It got me thinking about the warm Summer months. I just wanted to sprawl in a field with a blanket, a bottle of wine and a picnic loaded with fresh off the vine tomatoes with fresh baked bread and some oozy cheese. A girl can dream...
Speaking of Summer, have you started planning your gardens for the Spring? Do you grow your own vegetables? Herbs? Chickens? How much space do you have? How do you make it work? This is the first year in a while where I don't really have a space to grow anything - no outdoor area. Let me live through you. What are you planting??
This link-up is to encourage fresh food production, consumption,
activism, and awareness.
Please feel free to link up posts containing:
- CSA collections;
- Farmer's market treasures;
- Home grown/raised hauls;

You may link up to 3 posts in a given week that you haven't shared here before by using the linky tool at the bottom of this post. Feel free to click on any of the linked up posts and say hello by leaving a comment for your fellow fresh food communitarians and/or leave one here to tell us what you've shared - because we know how much we all love comments!

In order to be featured on the weekly highlights - which includes a highlight on your post here the following week as well as tweets, facebook page "like" and posting, and being added to the Fresh Foods pinterest board - you must have a text link back or button displayed in your post or on your blog. If you don’t link back to this post I can’t feature you.

Thanks for hosting another great party! Can't wait to check out all the links!
ReplyDeletethanks for coming by Nancy! nice to see you!
DeleteKristy,
ReplyDeleteEven if you have no outdoor area, I'm sharing how to re-grow celery. I'd imagine this could be transplanted into a pot (I'll share when they go into my raised beds). Meghan from Clean Eats Fast Feets recently blogged about the herbs that live on her kitchen windowsill--do you have any windows that could become sunny next time the sun gods visit?
Thanks for hosting!
ooooh i'm looking forward to reading your post kirsten. i don't have much light at all but to be fair - i haven't been in this place in the summer yet. maybe we'll have enough come spring time :)
DeleteThe seed catalogues have been rolling and in and then the deliberation begins... "What should we grow?" What can we get from the farmers markets? etc.. We have decent size area with a few fruit trees that we grow some heirloom veggies. But it is under the supervision of my kids and husband... so it can get neglected when we get busy in the summer.
ReplyDeletei would give anything for fruit trees.
Deleteseed catalogs are like christmas!!
I haven't even thought about a garden yet. I guess I need to start planning. Especially since I am not so good at it. I have to find a place. My spot last year in now sodded over.
ReplyDeletehaha - it takes some experiential learning for sure.
DeleteThanks so much for hosting Kristy! From the weather here, I get the feeling my garden is already way behind... Feels like Spring and my seedlings are still wee little things!
ReplyDeletea grow light might help, no? they'll make it in time, i'm sure. a little love and some good warmth go a long ways.
DeleteI have 8 little herb pots growing in the front window already (because I just couldn't wait) but hopefully they'll survive until I can get them outside. I usually plant a few small patches of ground in the yard (nothing raised, nothing fancy, just some dug up spots). Last year I did zucchini, tomatoes, chard, beets, beans, strawberries, rhubarb, leeks, arugula...and lots of herbs. Some of the herbs will hopefully come back again.
ReplyDeletehaha - that's exciting lisa! herbs should be started early anyhow so they can get big enough in time to use during the summer. i wonder if i can grow herbs in my front window this year?....hmmmm
DeleteThank you for hosting! I'm sharing my post on how big dairy is petitioning the FDA to approve the use of aspartame in dairy products (all of which will be unlabeled, of course)

DeleteGood Afternoon! This week I shared two posts: a vegetarian fried rice that is SO good, but so versatile. Plus an easy guide for choosing cooking fats so that we’re not eating free radicals! Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeletehi Tiffany! thanks for contributing - hope to see you again next week.
