The Wednesday Fresh Foods Link Up #29

Good morning my darlings!

I just finished a 6 day weekend and it was glorious! Actually, that's not true. I managed to get some sort of stomach bug. One word, my friends... Ew.

It's definitely flu season in Toronto and after bragging that I never get the flu, I got it. It's been years since I had a real flu and after the shaking, the cold, the fever and the "ew", I couldn't deny it. I was sick. So, so sick. Maybe I should have got the flu shot...? What are your feelings on the shot? It seems to me that everyone who gets it, still manages to catch the sickness. But I guess this year I - a person who ordinarily refuses to get poked (haha, "poked") - also caught something. Maybe it's a no win situation.... Do you get the flu shot?

Enough about "ew".... Let's talk about YOU!

You, my fine friends, had some incredible posts last week. Highlights include:

Say No to Frankenfish via Healthy Roots, Happy Soul
How to Keep Monsanto Out of Your Garden via Small Footprint Family
Simple Living Idea: Dinner via Simple Living and Eating

This link-up is to encourage fresh food production, consumption, activism, and awareness.

Please feel free to link up posts containing:
  • CSA collections;
  • Farmer's market treasures;

  • DIY projects and tutorials for: gardening, storing and/or preserving fresh, real foods, composting market scraps, raising chickens in your back yard, small living, etc...

You may link up to 3 posts in a given week that you haven't shared here before by using the linky tool at the bottom of this post. 1. Sorry you've been sick -- no fun! I do get the flu shot. I never used to, until I was pregnant with Nora, and she was a tiny baby during flu season, so we all got the shot (she was too little that year). Now we all make a habit of it.

  3. Hi Kristy,
    Thanks for featuring my dinner... slow down, relax post. So sorry to hear you got the flu. I still remember the flu of 1994... it was the sickest I had ever been in my life. Since then I get the shot and if doesn't protect me 100% when I get the flu I get a mild case.

  4. Kristy,
    I'm sorry you're sick and hope you are soon on the mend.
    I get the flu shot when someone makes it easy and convenient for me to do so, which hasn't happened this year. The best year was when a nurse was standing outside the entrance to the base grocery store reminding shoppers that flu shots were available. I walked across the street to the clinic, and got my shot, then shopped for groceries--two birds, one trip.

    I've linked up a day's worth of Farm Fresh Feasts today: Orange Cherry Oatmeal muffins for breakfast . . . well I'm not sure if the stew or the pizza should be lunch. Let's say stew. So for lunch, an Acorn Squash, Chick Pea, and Chicken Faux-roccan stew which tried to be too peppery thanks to a pepper grinder malfunction, but I managed to save it anyway. And for dinner, join a CSA and get amazing Indigo Rose tomatoes and use Heather at In Her Chucks' recipe for cherry tomato pesto for the sauce. Which, I am happy to say here in snowy Ohio, freezes well. Another way to feed my family from the farm share all year long.

    Thanks for hosting!

  5. Thanks for hosting! I shared an article on why we should eat ALL types of fats, not limiting ourselves to just one. They all have a little bit of good to offer!

  6. Aww nooo!!! Sorry to hear you got hit with the "EW". I recommend green juice and homemade chicken broth - intravenously! ;) I hope you're on the mend and feel better than new! I don't get the shot but take precautions during the flu season i.e. - lemon/ginger/cayenne, lots of green juices & veggies, and enough sleep. It's not perfect but I prefer the all-natural route.

    Thanks for hosting despite having just battled the nasty flu! I shared Toasted Coconut Chai Macaroons with a quick how-to video on how easy it is to make them. Super healthy and tasty and they’re perfect for snacking when you don’t want to feel guilty about snacking! :)

  7. Hope all is well! The grocery store has new fish labels- I thought I'd post what I learned shopping for sustainable fish. I am sure this is just part 1 of what is too be The Healthy Project's "Fish Project".
    Thanks for hosting!
